Bel Pre Creek

Geography

Bel Pre Creek is a creek with natural headwaters near the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Norbeck Road. Since the construction of the Leisure World retirement community, those portions within the bounds of Leisure World have become part of the landscaping, for example as contributory to the ponds of the golf course, as well as other water hazards on the golf course.

These two managed headwaters cross separately under Homecrest Road to a confluence in Argyle Country Club. Southwards the flow crosses Bel Pre Road, where it is the eastern bounds of the Strathmore and Hermitage Park neighborhoods and the western bounds of Bel Pre Square and Layhill Village communities.

Bel Pre Creek passes through the campus of the Barrie School and joins with Lutes Run and then passes under Layhill Road just north of Hathaway Drive, passes under Middlebridge Drive and enters the grounds of the Indian Spring Country Club where it joins a small unnamed run. Shortly thereafter, it enters the Northwest Branch Park and joins the main branch of the Northwest Branch of the Anacostia River, just north of Randolph Road.
